Rope-Materials-For-CareRope Materials Used By Artie Garden

Artie’s outdoor furniture collection features a variety of rope designs, all made with high-quality polyethylene or polyester for superior weather resistance and durability. However, like any outdoor furniture, rope chairs and sofas can become dirty over time. To keep them looking their best and extend their lifespan, proper cleaning and maintenance are essential. Here are some tips on how to clean and maintain your outdoor rope furniture.

Light Cleaning – Dirt And Debris

If your rope chairs and sofas have accumulated some dirt and debris, follow these simple steps to clean them:

  • Use your hand or a soft-bristled brush to gently sweep off any crumbs, dirt, leaves, or twigs.

  • Mix a cleaning solution using mild detergent and warm water at a ratio of 1:16.

  • Dip a sponge or soft-bristled brush into the cleaning solution and gently apply it to the rope. Make sure the rope is liberally soaked and allow the soap solution to soak into the fibers for a few minutes.

  • Use a gentle scrubbing motion with the sponge or brush to clean the rope. Be careful not to damage the fibers while applying light pressure.

  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow to air dry.

Mildew

Mildew is a common problem with outdoor furniture, especially in areas with high humidity or rainfall. It’s not the material of the rope itself where mildew grows but the dirt and organic material that may have attached or been left on the rope.

  • Prepare a solution of 4 teaspoons of household bleach & 1 teaspoon of mild detergent per 235-355ml (1-1/2 cups) of lukewarm water.

  • Spray the cleaning solution onto the stained area and allow to soak in for 15 minutes.

  • Take a sponge or a soft bristle brush and gently scrub away the mildew.

  • Rinse each piece of furniture three times as all of the bleach must rinse out and allow to air dry.

Small Stains & Stubborn Stains

Persistent stains that have been neglected for some time may appear to be daunting to remove, as they may be deeply embedded, discolored, and encrusted. However, with the proper cleaning techniques and products, even the most stubborn stains can be effectively removed.

  • Use a soft bristle brush and scrub the stain while it’s dry. This helps remove any solid gunk.

  • Take a tablespoon or so of white vinegar and soak the stain. Allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes.

  • With a clean brush, scrub at the stain after the soaking period.

  • For very stubborn stains, add a sprinkle of baking soda after soaking with white vinegar. Let it sit for 5-8 minutes then scrub.

  • Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

For particularly stubborn stains, you may need to use a commercial cleaner designed for use on outdoor furniture. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and rinse the rope thoroughly with a hose afterward. Allow the rope to dry completely before using your furniture.
